Returning from Rarh, India

After traveling half way round the world, its nice to be somewhere that I can write to you whom i have connected with recently in London, India, the USA or Canada. Being in Rarh, West Begnal, India for the past month has brought me back to my core and my life's work, to become more aware of, to learn and spread the depth and beauty of the traditional Rarh kirtans throughout the west.
Rarhbhum, 'the land of Rarh' with its red soil, rivers and mountain peaks, and five indigenous music genres, is truly magnificent and is said to be the original homeland of Kirtan. Being there during this hot summer temperatures was both tough and miraculous, musically and spiritually.

With my friend and assistant, Tinku, we met with and interviewed many prominent kirtan masters in the Purulia District of Rarh. They shared with us their love, expertise and traditional knowledge of kirtan, leaving me full of gratitiude for their tremendous generosity. I had the opportunity to study some of these traditional Rarhi Kirtan tals and ragas and have begun the work and joy of spreading these wonderful tunes with others this weekend at the Ananda Marga Boston Spring Retreat and at the Zen Peacemakers Centre in Northampton. I also now have a new baby khol which I am nursing at home in london.
