Then on the 30th Nov. a good friend of mine, professor from Ranchi University will be here to give a concert at SOAS, London University, 7pm at the Brunei Gallery Theatre
Binapani Mahato: Folk Treasures from Eastern India:
Binapani is one of the very few classically tranied jhumur singers 'folk' singers of the Rarh region in Easter India. Jhumur songs and dances express the loves, hopes, and political and social aspirations of a people who have been thoroughly neglected in the past. Having researched jhumur songs and the Chhau rhythms of the region for many years, her performances reflect the historical, social, and spiritual environment of the local people of Jharkhand.
